Ordering propecia tablets off the market has been a challenge, but the FDA has approved an alternative that uses the active ingredient, finasteride, in lower doses and longer treatment times.

Oftentimes, patients using the drugs face financial and safety issues. However, several companies are working with the FDA to develop low-dose, lower-cost generic versions of finasteride, which would be more affordable than the brand name version and available at a fraction of the price.

Low-Dose Generic Propecia

Oral finasteride is a generic version of Propecia, a medication that belongs to the class of drugs known as 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors.

Oral finasteride tablets work by inhibiting the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, which converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a hormone that can cause male pattern baldness and prostate enlargement, and is thought to contribute to the development of male pattern baldness and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Generic Propecia Side Effects

In addition to its side effects, generic finasteride can cause some side effects. Some of these side effects include:

  • Decreased libido
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Breast tenderness
  • Gastrointestinal upset

Patients should be aware of these potential side effects and report them to their doctor immediately. Moreover, using generic finasteride for hair loss or BPH treatment is illegal and can result in fines or even criminal charges.

Low-Dose Generic Propecia for Male Pattern Baldness

In a clinical trial, a group of men who used finasteride tablets for BPH reported improvements in sexual function and hair growth. The men who took the finasteride tablets had a statistically significant lower rate of side effects compared to the men who were not using finasteride.

The researchers discovered that the men who used finasteride tablets experienced reduced sexual desire and performance, a decrease in the frequency of sexual activity, and a reduction in the severity of hair loss and prostate growth. Additionally, the men who used finasteride tablets reported a statistically significant increase in the number of satisfying sexual encounters, a decrease in the intensity of ejaculation, and a decrease in the frequency of sexual activity.

Generic Propecia Hair Loss Medication

In addition to the side effects mentioned above, generic finasteride can also cause some unexpected side effects. For example, the men who took finasteride tablets had less volume in their ejaculation and a lower frequency of ejaculation attempts compared to the men who were not using finasteride.

I just started using this medicine and after reading the reviews, I was considering trying it a few days ago. I have noticed the improvement in my hair density with the hair loss drug finasteride. I have been using it for about 4 years and it has helped a bit. I haven’t tried it for a couple months or more and have noticed a little bit of improvement. I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendations? Any advice on what to do?

Thanks so much!

Hi all. I recently started to experience some hair loss in my scalp. I noticed the initial symptoms of it, i was initially very excited and it turned out to be something else. Then I noticed more, and I noticed a lot more, and this is a bit of a surprise. I was a bit skeptical at first but it took me a while to really know how to function and feel. I’ve been using it for 4 months now, but it’s only been 3 months. I’m still not completely sure why I’ve started to notice anything. I’m hoping it’s something to do with my hair loss. I’m not sure if it’s anything to do with the fact that I’m not experiencing any of the side effects, but I’m hoping it’s a factor to my overall health as well. I’m not sure if it’s related to the fact that I’m currently taking it to help with thinning hair but I’m not sure.

Thank you for your advice, I’ve been trying to figure out what to do. I’m on finasteride, so the other side effect is to stop hair regrowth. I’ve been taking it for about a year now and I’ve noticed a few improvements but the noticeable improvements are not that great. I’ve read a few of your posts and I’m curious if anyone has any advice on what to do. I’m hoping it’s something to do with my hair loss and it’s only been in my head for a few months now.

Hello all. I’ve been taking Finasteride and it’s helped my hair. I had to take it for a while, but now it works great. I don’t think my hair loss is related to the side effects of finasteride. I’ve had to stop taking it to see if the side effects are gone. I’m hoping it’s something to do with the fact that I’m now taking it to help with thinning hair. I’m not sure if it’s related to my hair loss or something. My hair is still thick. It’s almost like my hair is still healthy. Any advice would be most appreciated. Thanks!

I had to stop taking it to see if the side effects are gone. I’m hoping it’s something to do with my hair loss and it’s only been in my head for a few months. I’m still not completely sure about this, but it has been working well for me. I’m trying to get back to my normal hair routine but it’s not going to be easy. I’m on finasteride, so I don’t know if it’s related to my hair loss or something.

Thanks, I’ve been on finasteride for a while now. I’ve had my hair on my scalp for about a month now and it has helped. I was a bit skeptical but it was worth it. I think I’ll try the hair loss medication for some time and see if it’s something to do with it. I’m not really a hair loss specialist, so I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to go back and see if I need to go on finasteride.

Living with noticeable hair loss is no longer to be expected due to the incredible developments that have been made in the treatment of men’s hair loss. With the introduction of Propecia, generic name Finasteride, it is now possible to stop or slow down the progression of hair loss in the majority of men who use it.

Fifty percent of all men experience male-patterned baldness; the most common type of hair loss beginning around the age of thirty.

It generally starts as a receding hairline; a thinning of hair on the crown and temples; resulting in a U-shape pattern around the head. In some rare cases, a male may end up completely bald.

The condition is genetic; caused by an abundance of the male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which causes the hair follicles to become weak and eventually inactive, resulting in a lack of hair re-growth. This process can take decades, so if you have experienced rapid hair loss (under a year) or scalp irritation causing bald patches, you should seek medical advice from your GP to ensure there are no underlying thyroid conditions or other reasons for the condition.

One of the most effective treatments for general hair loss is finasteride, which prevents further hair loss and increases hair growth.
